We say goodbye to our dear friend and the Co-Founder of Outreach for Christ. He and his wife, Ann started the ministry in 1969. Their legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those they have loved on throughout the years. He was truly a man of influence, mercy and forgiveness. His absence will be felt by many. He lived a great life of service to others, always willing to give everything he had to help someone in need. One of our Board Members said it best when he said, “The only reason Wayne showed up here today with a shirt on his back, is because someone did not ask for it on his way here.” He was a sincere example of a life poured out for the gospel. He was a giver and not a taker. He was always willing to look for the best in people and he knew that even during difficult times, God had a plan. The celebration of his life at London Bridge Baptist was such a fitting and beautiful way to honor his life and their legacy. It was a true celebration of Wayne’s great promotion into the Kingdom where he is receiving his great and awesome rewards. Many times he would tell us of his desire to serve God faithfully until his last breath and he still surely did!
The toy ministry is part of the huge legacy he and Ann leave behind. We completed our first toy ministry in honor of Wayne, sometimes with tears in our eyes. We knew he would never want us to cancel it or not help someone. It was truly a blessing to be able to help every single person that requested help. Because of your help we were able to help so many families have a Christmas, with food, trimmings and all the gifts. It is so exciting to see people leave here with hope. The gifts and food are nice, too, but when you can see their hope restored, it is worth everything. We have so many people to thank. We had many volunteers that helped the caregivers of the children shop for Christmas toys. These people were awesome in loving on the caregivers, praying with them and discerning other needs as they may have had. This is not as easy as it sounds, because some of these families are going through such horrific situations and
circumstances that you find yourself crying alongside them. Praise God for their servant hearts. We also want to thank the many churches and Bible Study teams that collected toys and donations for Outreach. We could not have done this without all of you. We also had teams of people come in and help us fill Blessing Bags for the homeless, sort toys, clean the building and cook meals for the workers. We are always excited when someone stops by to serve in any capacity. Thank you all and God bless you much for the sacrifice of time, resources, energy and finances. We are looking forward to even greater things in the New Year.
We are so blessed to have had the time with Wayne to establish a firm foundation in running the ministry and developing future plans. We are excited to see Wayne and Ann’s legacy continue to thrive. We are thankful for the continued support and prayers for the growth and goals in the future for Outreach for Christ. One of the goals that are close to fruition is the opening of the Wayne Skinner House of Discipleship. This will be a residential discipleship program that will help men overcome their difficult backgrounds and become victorious over strongholds, to live a productive life of moral integrity. The Ann Skinner house of Discipleship for women will follow soon after. Any donation towards this venture can be sent to Outreach for Christ in their honor and you can direct it towards the Wayne or Ann Skinner House of Discipleship.
