Harvest!
People get excited when the leaves start changing colors and temperatures cool down with the change of seasons. We start thinking about the family time of holidays to come. Imagine Christmas music by the fireplace and warm happy thoughts of great times to come and making memories with loved ones. We start planning our menus for the many feasts of celebration…….Now, imagine that times are tough at this time of year. It truly is a difficult season for so many. Some people have no home or family during the holidays. There are single parents out there struggling to pay the rent with no hope of extra money to give their children the traditional holiday meals or gifts. Many homes will have to make the choice to pay the electric bill over buying a turkey or Christmas gifts. We send out cards that say Jesus is the reason for the season, but it is so difficult to focus on that when there is such a huge need. When single parents are balancing their check book and find that there is not enough to meet the current needs of food, shelter and clothing it becomes a little harder to celebrate the birth of our Savior. When there is famine in the land, there is no feasting. It is not our fault that some are suffering through some difficult circumstances in life, but as the Body of Christ, we have a responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. You were created in his image to serve a purpose. We, as the Body of Christ have a huge opportunity this holiday season to really shine the light of hope to those who are in a difficult situation. The Bible mentions this particular sentiment many times. Please read these verses and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart.
Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
The list goes on and on if you search verses on helping others. Not only is this pleasing to God, it is so rewarding to the giver. The Bible says he repays the giver here on this planet and we also store up treasures in heaven. We get doubly blessed for lending to the Lord! Hallelujah! Praise God!
